On the negative side of today’s ledger I woke up to a notice from my NAS that one of the 4 disks is reporting read errors. Not a huge issue at the moment as I use 2 disk redundancy but I’ll have to research a replacement drive and place an order today.
I miss our road trips following ribbons of highways to the horizon.

For our kids at-home learning illustrates how a laptop is much more productive than an iPad for many use cases. Multi-app display and navigation is critical and a touch interface doesn’t offer them any advantage. Of course when it is time to curl up the iPad wins.

We set up my son’s “home school” in the room next to my study - it’s quiet, well lit and convenient if he needs help. The downside is it’s surprisingly distracting because I can hear everything that’s going on. Overall his teachers are doing great with the new normal!

And so it begins…this odd school year. Our 6th grade son had a virtual “meet the teachers” meeting via 2-way Zoom video this morning. A parent dropped an F bomb before the meeting could even really get started so of course the teachers had to dive for the “mute all” button.😡
I recently tried switching from an external HDD to an APFS formatted external SSD for backing up my MBP but macOS crashes in the middle of the night every day if the SSD is attached (many OS app crash logs). Unmount the SSD and it runs fine for days. Can’t find the culprit 😞.

Always find it a bit odd that such colorful butterflies have so many black-and-white spots on their head and wings.

We love daytripping and road trips in general. How about some colorful horses from one of our most recent ones. Which sadly isn’t very recent.

Our district published data on parent selection of in-person versus at-home instruction. Overall it is almost exactly 50-50 but there is a swing of 21ppt low to high amongst elementary schools (42% - 63% at-home swing). If they ever get to start in-person it will be less crowded.
