Observations on gas prices:
A few days ago my gas was $3.59/gallon. This morning it is $4.09/gallon up 50 cents in half a week.
No one seems to have slowed down to conserve gas in their cars/trucks.

Chilling in our room before dinner. Childless for the night 😉
Circles, angles and lines
A rare breakfast out with my honey
Does anyone have a bread machine they love? One that can produce great white and wheat sandwich bread?
Much mulch.
Ice storm aftermath.
TIL that starting with the iPhone 12 the personal hotspot only ‘advertises’ WiFi on 5GHz. This prevents older and simpler devices from connecting to it. The “Maximize Compatibility” feature adds 2.4GHz which is universal. Would have been nice if the text for that toggle actually mentioned this…
After my wife cut the sashimi and sushi from the New Zealand salmon there was a bit left over so she threw it on the stove griddle for a minute. To die for.
Ever since having ORA King Salmon at our sushi place we’ve been hooked. Yesterday I discovered a local specialty market started selling it and tonight we’re making sushi, sashimi, and poke with some.🍣
Ōra King - A unique breed of king salmon for culinary excellence
Mexico should be ashamed. “…we want to have good relations with all the governments in the world”. If they’re ever attacked I wonder if they’ll forgo asking every country for help.
Mexico’s President López Obrador declines to impose economic sanctions on Russia
I wonder if there is any circumstance where European countries would actually fight for the freedom of a neighbor rather than just talking about freedom? Hand slaps don’t have a good record as a deterrence to extreme aggression.
As crazy as the world is these days we’re sorely tempted to get a Zojirushi bread making machine. 🍞
Wow. Unprecendeted for Switzerland. 🇨🇭 I have a feeling Putin didn’t anticipate the breadth of the reaction. But I fear it will just make him more intransigent.
Switzerland breaks neutral status to sanction Russia over Ukraine invasion
Interesting read on the impact of sanctions
Our teenage daughter unearthed a 10 year old 7.9” iPad while cleaning her room. The home button stopped working long ago and it only runs iOS 9.3.5 which precludes pretty much all apps. It has no trade value still I hesitate to recycle it. 🤔
In a world full of bullies, thugs and thieves I am reminded how grateful I am for those who work to keep us safe.
Local schools and colleges have canceled classes for tomorrow. No snow, just another ice day, so not so much fun.
Ahhh, the sweet sounds of summer… Birds singing in the trees. Storm sirens waking us up at 3:30am. In February !$!$!
Early voting in the Texas primaries starts today. It is unusually complicated this year so I took the unusual step of printing out a sample ballot to mark up.
Our 17 y/o, who is the primary viewer, stopped me to say she heard Netflix was raising prices again and I should just cancel it. “There aren’t many good shows on it anyway.” My wife agreed and since neither my son nor I ever watch Netflix it is a goner.
I helped our 17 y/o daughter make a Valentine’s Day cake for her BF. Since we’re not allowed to touch that I’m following that up with a batch of brownies for our fam.
Coming soon….

A good paper explaining how Sun activity levels degrade low earth orbiting satellites like Starlink.
Satellite Orbital Drag During Magnetic Storms - Oliveira - 2019 - Space Weather
Looks like the Starlink hubris doomed a bunch of their satellites. The sun is in a significant cycle (25) so we may see more failures over the next year or two.
A geomagnetic storm may have effectively destroyed 40 SpaceX Starlink satellites
I liked the light, colors and textures in my new dermatologist’s waiting room. I give the doctor an A+ too.
