Into the woods

Into the woods

I had my 10 year old son for company on my walk today. The clouds were unusual and the overall tone of the sky was as well. The photo is not retouched. #mbnov π· β οΈ

Red? Or Blue?
N.B. Rain drops on our cars. I was struck by how similar they were, though of course different colors.
After having no fall weather and the warmest and driest September on record, our temperature has been cut in half going from over 90F yesterday afternoon to 45F this morning. Also rain is added to the mix this morning. And all the hoodie fans rejoice!

A launch, framed. π π· π³
A half dozen hot air balloons launched while I was exercising this morning. The past month has been hot and humid with still air. Virtually every day when I take my son to school we see at least one floating by.

This is my first time trying a βHigh Ryeβ. A lady at my local store highly recommended it as falling in between a traditional rye and a bourbon. I used it in an old fashioned tonight and it turned out quite well. I normally use rye, such as Redemption makes as well. π₯ π·

The ultimate selfie…

Still in the 90s here and will be until October per the forecast. But I noticed the sunshine towards the end of the day seems to have that hint of fall color in it. Or maybe thatβs my wishful thinking. π· π³ βοΈ

The days are shorter as if it is fall, but the temperature is pure summer. Almost all of September has been +10F degrees over normal. β οΈ π·

Side project: Using an Adafruit PyPortal to create a custom alarm clock. Alarm time is set via my server rather than locally and can play music files as an alarm sound. Automatically turns alarm off on weekends. Coding this in Python makes it a breeze and can easily enhance it.

In case you just want the visuals and not to read the post on my new Apple Card here are the images.

After removing my Apple Card from the UPS envelope I was surprised to be greeted with something more substantial than the typical envelope used for other credit cards.
The brown outer packaging was made from recycled paper that was similar to a very heavy paper stock. The brown paper easily held it’s squared-off corners for example. Inside was the holder for the card itself which was made out of high quality stock similar to that used in good greeting cards and a nicely embossed Apple logo. The holder was a typical Apple white. The inside had the same color gradients used in the Wallet app. As usual with Apple the packaging was a pleasure.
The card itself is only slightly thicker than others I have. I was a bit surprised that it is not what I call “Apple white” but instead has a bit of a steel/grey cast (though in the photo it looks warmer). There is a definite metallic clink when the card is put on a wood table. I imagine if you were to drop the card on a hard floor the resulting sound would be very noticeable.
In looking over the FAQs I discovered the process for doing an in-store return other than at Apple is a bit different than with other cards. I imagine this will cause a few hiccups until it is better known. As far as the other T&C I think this would be a good card for my kids when they’re old enough (not sure they would be approved for one though). In my case I will start carrying the Apple Card as my emergency backup card (not my main card as it pays 2% on all purchases).
My main annoyance with the cardβs features is the lack of a method to export transactions to budgeting software (e.g. an OFX file or even a CSV file). A PDF statement is the only export available. I think this a real weakness for a card that is themed as being friendlier to responsible spending. As far as the “don’t carry it in a leather wallet” posts I don’t really care. None of my credit cards looks new and if I got bothered enough by the Apple Card discoloring they’ll send a replacement free.

I woke up at 4am as if an alarm clock had sounded. Wide awake.
On my second coffee and yeah, there might be a π© involved as well.

We are family though we are not all the same.

Relaxation for @macgenie. Water added. They donβt call it a lazy river for nothing. π·

For @macgenie P is for Patience Or rather peas.
This was when I had shoulder surgery. I had to wear an immobilizer for 6 weeks that strapped my arm to my body. For the first two weeks I couldnβt even lay down so had to sleep in a chair. Good times!

Ate at the new Lazy Dog by our house for the first time. ππΌππΌ

Enjoying the sound of a gentle rain on the window this morning. Itβs a bit unusual here because rain usually involves thunderstorms. π§ βοΈ

Wispy clouds today. Our class of 2022 daughter is going through orientation and club rush this morning. Future college costs are beginning to loom large! β οΈ π·

Had a chance to observe another armadillo on the trail this morning. It has not a care in the world. π·
