Excited to try this new Canopus Note. It was a winner of the Tokyo Stationery Award this year and cited as the best for all kinds of pens and inks. Should be fun. I love good paper and notebooks though I have to admit I under utiilize them.

My initial troubleshooting of the high SWR on the HF antenna has eliminated the EFHW/balun as the cause and also the antenna switch and lightning arrestor. After futzing around it seems to be a fault in the cable from my shack at the front of the house to the antenna in the backyard. I need to do some more checks to ensure this is the case (e.g. not just a connector on the cable). It is a direct bury cable so won’t be fun to replace.

Unproductive pre-dawn start. Tried doing early FT8. WSJT- wasn't hearing stations so I kicked it in the butt which fixed it. Then noticed on pskreporter my signal wasn't going out. Checked my 7300 and the SWR was off the chart(NanoVNA showing a 22:1).

Decided to print a simple fidget. Failed after first layer with the head getting an ooze-ball and dragging the first layer all over the place. I noticed it was the first time using a new Prusa satin PEI. Switch to an older one and problem fixed.😔

Started printing the parts to implement the free upgrade of my Core One to a Core One+. Everything looks pretty simple to implement.

The PC CF parts came out great, tomorrow I’ll do the PETG portion.

I got a call from HRO regarding my reservation for an Icom 7300MKII. They let me know I was #2 on the list, which is cool, but sadly I had to decline. Prusa jumped ahead of the line on my spending queue.

I want this SOOO bad! Something to look forward to next year.

Wow, this brings back some memories! As a early teen I loved building control line planes from scratch and flying them. Lots of fun hours.

Scanning the OpenPrintTag NFC on the new filament spools with the Prusa app opens the details page for that specific spool and includes some tips about using that filament type.

The tags are reusable/writable👍🏼.

I took advantage of Prusa's filament sale and free shipping, as you can see. Four of the spools are the new reusable model with NFC tags and the other two are old school. Note the NFC spools apparently eliminate the need to secure the two sides with a bolt if drying at very high temperatures.

This includes my first roll of ASA and four new colors. Time to print some samples and fire up the dryer.

One tidbit about the Core One - My Coast XPH30R headlamp with the magnetic side sticks like glue to the hefty C1 enclosure. Very handy to stick the lamp wherever needed inside or outside when changing nozzles, doing a mod or etc. I liked my Coast headlamps since I got them and even more so now.

Well I suppose it was inevitable. I didn't buy the Core One so I could have two printers but at the moment my old MK4S is running side-by-side. It doesn't need to be but I decided I should test it post-relocation. Quality is looking good even though it is on the floor in a dusty corner.

Maybe the wife will rent me space in her she-cave 😜

I have a collection of those small round magnets in various sizes. Storing and getting the one(s) I want out is a pain as they alternately strongly attract or repel each other and fly all over the place.

Maybe I need to print individual bins with lids?

A littlle his-and-hers fun with the Core One. These are stands for our iPhones. My first time etching (?) a heart this deep. Very pleased with the look (top left of the red shows what looks like a line but it was just wisp).

Afterwards I (finally) checked the belt tension: the bottom one was already perfect and the top one was slightly low. Easily fixed

Content warning:YouTubeTV and Disney/ESPN unbundling

Finally, channel unbundling comes to YouTubeTV!

Joking of course but we would happily take a $20 discount on our subscription and lose all the these channels. I bet we’re not alone

In the two days I’ve had the Core One I am surprised at how much of a joy it is to use. I’m really having fun with it. I have 15 hours of print time spread across PLA and PETG printing some mods, a mod of my own design, and prototypes of a new model I’m working on.

Culminated the weekend by printing a model using PC Carbon Fiber in the heated chamber with the advanced filtration system. 👍🏼👍🏼

I think the MK4S is gonna feel very neglected.

Oh, and naturally since I got a new printer I’ll spend the next day printing mods and QoL models.😉

My pre-assembled Prusa Core One was delivered this morning. The Z axis couldn’t move freely but after a nice chat with support that’s been resolved (apparently an overly tight trapezoidal).

Moving from a slinger to an enclosed printer is a big adjustment. E.g. I’m so used to pulling the bed towards me to lift a print off.

I had a V shape model that couldn’t print vertically on the MK4S. The angle was a bit too much for it. Printed vertically on the Core One just fine (yeah CoreXY).😎

Prusa's big sale proved more than I could resist - I ordered a Core One with the filtration kit. At least temporarily I’ll have two printers at the same time.

Next up I’ll build a shopping list to take advantage of the sale and free shipping on Prusament.

And yes there goes my Christmas money 😜

For anyone interested in Prusa printers and supplies they’re have a major sale for the next month including free shipping. Even filament, nozzles and sheets are on sale and can qualify for free shipping.

I may finally pull the trigger on a Core One.

This kind of shenigans, which is becoming more common, is why I always seek to watch videos directly from the source. I especially notice space flight related YouTube channels which can’t be trusted.

I tried and liked Apple’s new native containers as opposed to Docker. Very lightweight and a strong security model and better network handling. But… there is no automatic restart nor persistence across reboots. Depending on the use case that is a bit of a deal breaker. Hopefully these capabilities will be added soon.

In related news the move of Plex and friends from my Linux box to the Mac mini went very well.

@cherizilla Hi! Am I hallucinating when I think you once mentioned using an AI to create some images for stories? Our 16 yo is doing an independent study project for his AP English class and has settled on world building (for a future novel). If you had an AI that worked well I’d like to share it with him. He doesn’t want to spend time on the images (that would be a project all by itself).

I decided to place a “reservation” for the new Icom IC-7300MK2 which they say will release by the end of the year. The MSRP I saw was exactly what I expected - pricey. I plan to sell my IC-7300 after it arrives.

Meanwhile I have plenty of time to second guess a purchase decision. Maybe it will be my Christmas gift.

On a related note, has anyone played with Apple’s new native containers?

Being a glutton for punishment I’ve decided to move the Plex server from a Linux box to my Mac mini. I’ve moved Plex to new Linux boxes before and I remember a lot of gotchas. Thankfully I took some notes at the time. I’m sure throwing a Mac in the mix will add a few more.

First hurdle will be mounting the Linux SSD on the Mac and finding an efficient way to copy media to the new, larger, SSD while fixing file ownership and permissions.
